Anambra to Honour Princess Alban Ugonwaezeh Agugo for Contributions to Sports Development.
The people of Anambra will come together on June 27, 2024, to honour Princess Alban Ugonwaezeh Agugo for her significant contributions to sports development in the state and Nigeria at large. The event will be held at Hilton Leisure in Awka, celebrating her achievements and dedication to the advancement of sports.
Princess Alban Ugonwaezeh Agugo, a native of Adazi-Nnukwu in Anaocha Local Government Area, holds a degree in Educational Psychology and a master’s in Educational Administration and Planning. Recently, she received a prestigious scholarship from World Rugby to study International Sports Management at Capgemini University and Harvard Business School, USA. She will join twenty-four scholars from around the world and also receive grants from World Rugby to develop women’s rugby in Nigeria, along with a fully sponsored trip to the Rugby World Cup in England in 2025.
Earlier this year, Princess Alban was awarded a similar scholarship by Rugby Africa to study Sports Management at Lunex University in Luxembourg, making her the first Nigerian to benefit from such an initiative at the continental level. Her achievements have gained her recognition both nationally and internationally.
Expressing her gratitude, Princess Ugonwaezeh said, “It is truly amazing that my people have deemed it fit to recognise me. This recognition of my efforts is quite commendable and will definitely motivate me to do more by bringing honour to my community and my state, and by providing opportunities for my people through sports.”
