President Bola Tinubu has approved the naming of the M18 road infrastructure in Guzape District, Abuja, after renowned novelist Professor Chinua Achebe.

This decision reflects his administration’s commitment to people-focused development through essential infrastructure and amenities aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens.

During the commissioning of engineering infrastructure in Guzape Lot 11 District, Tinubu praised Minister Nyesom Wike for his exceptional leadership during challenging times.

“You have demonstrated the capacity to build a team, lead a team, and deliver on promises. I commend you, well done,” Tinubu stated, emphasizing the need for development that prioritizes economic prosperity and benefits for the people.

Tinubu urged unity and collaboration in nation-building, highlighting the importance of making inaccessible lands productive for the country’s benefit.

He also commended Gilmor Engineering Limited, the contractor handling the project, and reiterated his administration’s dedication to infrastructure development for the public good, not personal gain. “I stand here as President; I do not have a plot of land here. But I have the people’s support and the mandate to deliver a good quality of life and a living environment,” he affirmed.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, provided details on the project’s history and challenges. Initially awarded in 2003 at a cost of N14 billion, the contract was split between Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company Nigeria Limited and Gilmor Engineering Limited.

The project faced delays and litigation, but was revived with the revised cost of N18.17 billion, thanks to Tinubu’s approval.

Wike expressed gratitude for the President’s support and non-interference since his tenure began in August 2023. He also proposed naming major roads in Guzape District after literary giants Chinua Achebe and JP Clark, and announced that the ‘diplomatic area’ in the district would be completed within a year.
