In a distressing incident late Monday evening, two students from Lagos State University (LASU) were injured by stray bullets in the vicinity of a popular student residential area known as PPL, situated outside the campus premises.
Details surrounding the incident remain sparse, with neither the identities of the victims nor the shooter(s) being disclosed at the time of reporting. The unfortunate event occurred around 8 pm when the students ventured out to procure food.
The alarming situation was first brought to public attention through social media, with a user identified as Baddy of Lasu, tweeting under #belikebaddy, issuing a cautionary message urging LASU students to remain indoors for safety. Subsequently, Kappo Olawale, the Senior Special Adviser on Students’ Union Affairs to Lagos State Governor, corroborated the occurrence through a tweet on X.com under #kappozino.
Olawale, in his tweet, confirmed communication with the university’s Student Union President, assuring that the victims were in stable condition. He commended the swift response of the university’s authorities, highlighting the efforts of the Dean of Students who ensured the wounded students received prompt medical attention.
An anonymous student familiar with the incident disclosed that the victims, while out to procure food, found themselves amidst gunfire, prompting them to flee. Tragically, one of the students, visibly identified as a female in a circulating video, was observed lying on a bed, her shirt drenched in blood.
According to the source, the male victim sustained injuries to his neck and arm from the stray bullets. After initial treatment at the LASU Health Centre, he was subsequently transferred to the Igando Medical Hospital, where he is reported to be responding positively to treatment. The Dean of Students Affairs of LASU is reported to have accompanied the injured students to the hospital, demonstrating the university’s commitment to their welfare.
