Paul Offor Reveals Reason Behind Departure from Sporting Lagos
Former Sporting Lagos coach Paul Offor has opened up about his mid-season departure from the newly promoted team in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). Offor, who was relieved of his duties following a series of inconsistent results, shared his perspective in a recent interview on the Abu Azeez podcast.
“I think some of the reasons for what I did with the team were the reason why I am no longer with the team,” Offor explained. “When you come into a team as a coach, sometimes you have to make radical decisions. All your decisions won’t favour everybody.”
Offor emphasized the necessity of making tough choices upon his arrival at Sporting Lagos, including a significant overhaul of the player roster. “When I came in, I observed the players and saw the need for a clear out, which I did. In the process, I stepped on a lot of toes. I don’t think I was forgiven for that,” he said.
Despite the backlash, Offor stands by his decisions. “I’m happy with those decisions I took then,” he added.
Offor’s tenure at Sporting Lagos was marked by efforts to reshape the team, but his approach ultimately led to friction within the club, resulting in his dismissal. Sporting Lagos will continue their campaign under new management as they aim to solidify their position in the NPFL.
