In the midst of political upheaval in Edo State, the Deputy Governor, Marvellous Omobayo, has denied accusations leveled against him by the Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate, Olumide Akpata.
Omobayo refuted claims of sponsoring crises within the party, asserting his unwavering dedication to the principles of integrity and service to the people.
A statement released by Victor Adefemi, Chief Press Secretary to Omobayo, stated the Deputy Governor’s longstanding involvement in LP, predating Akpata’s entry into the party. The statement clarified that Omobayo had been instrumental in bolstering LP’s strength and popularity within the state, emphasizing his commitment to grassroots politics and community development.
Omobayo, who previously served as LP’s deputy gubernatorial candidate in 2020, stated his refusal to partake in any monetary influences during the party’s primary elections. He reiterated his genuine motivation for engaging in politics, emphasizing a vision centered on serving the marginalized and fostering inclusive leadership.
Expressing his loyalty to principles of justice, equity, and good governance, Omobayo asserted his decision to align with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was driven by a commitment to his constituents’ well-being and the overall advancement of Edo State.
The Deputy Governor emphasized his steadfast rejection of violent political tactics and monetary inducements, particularly during LP’s recent primaries. He maintained that his political allegiance transcends tribal, party, or ethnic affiliations, rooted instead in a steadfast dedication to principles of fairness and progress.
