President Joseph Boakai of Liberia recently reiterated Liberia’s profound appreciation for Nigeria’s role during the tumultuous civil war era.
Welcoming a delegation led by Oba Alexander MacGregor of Orile-Ilawo, Abeokuta, President Boakai, represented by Vice President Jeremiah Koung, emphasized Nigeria’s indispensable support during Liberia’s darkest times.
Acknowledging Nigeria’s assistance, particularly through the ECOMOG peacekeeping mission, President Boakai lauded Nigeria’s efforts in restoring peace and stability in Liberia. He expressed admiration for Nigeria’s contributions to peace-building and socio-economic development across Africa, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
Oba Alexander MacGregor echoed President Boakai’s sentiments, highlighting the need for enhanced economic collaboration between Liberia and Nigeria. The delegation’s visit included charitable activities, such as a donation to the Yasmin Foundation, aimed at supporting disadvantaged children in Liberia.
Madam Katumu Boakai expressed gratitude for the delegation’s visit and reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to promoting the rights of women and children through education and economic empowerment.
The royal delegation also engaged with key Liberian officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow and Ambassador of Culture Queen Juli Endee, who showcased Liberia’s rich cultural heritage.
