The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Nigerian Army’s 15 Field Engineering Regiment in Badagry has dismantled an illegal alcohol manufacturing factory in the Badagry area of Lagos State.
NAFDAC disclosed this operation in a statement released on X.com, stating their successful crackdown on illicit activities within the region. The operation specifically targeted Chinedu Okafor, who was found to be operating an unlawful drinks manufacturing operation from his residence located at No. 24, MTN Road, Badagry.
The statement detailed the involvement of NAFDAC enforcement officers, who, with crucial intelligence provided by the Nigerian Army, swiftly moved to dismantle Okafor’s illegal setup. Okafor’s suspicious activities had drawn the attention of the Nigerian Army, resulting in his arrest and subsequent handover to NAFDAC officers at the Ports Inspection Directorate, Seme Border.
Upon thorough inspection, officers evacuated all equipment and materials used in the production of illicit drinks, effectively shutting down the clandestine factory. Investigations into Okafor’s activities revealed his longstanding involvement in this criminal enterprise, posing a significant threat to the regulation of alcohol drinks in the Badagry area.
NAFDAC further announced that Okafor will face prosecution for his illicit actions, emphasizing their commitment to upholding regulatory standards and ensuring public safety. Additionally, all offending products seized during the operation will be destroyed, with an estimated value exceeding ₦50,000,000.
