Bayer Leverkusen Unbeaten Run Continues across all Competition….. hits 47 games in style and still counting as they defeated Roma 2:0 away from home.
Bayer Leverkusen took control of their Europa League semi-final with a 2-0 first-leg victory against Roma, securing their second win in Italy.
Florian Wirtz and Robert Andrich found the net for the Bundesliga champions, while Roma struggled to make an impact with just two shots on target.
The match started slowly, lacking in quality for the opening half-hour. However, Leverkusen seized the opportunity when Alex Grimaldo intercepted a backpass and set up Wirtz for the opening goal, marking his 18th goal of the season.
Roma tried to respond but failed to find an equalizer before halftime. Leverkusen extended their lead in the second half when Andrich scored from long range, sealing the victory and stretching their unbeaten run to 47 matches across all competitions under Xabi Alonso.
Meanwhile, in the other semi-final first leg, Marseille and Atalanta played out a 1-1 draw at Stade Velodrome. Gianluca Scamacca gave Atalanta the lead early on, but Chancel Mbemba equalized with a long-range effort. Both teams had chances to score again, leaving the tie finely poised ahead of the second leg in Bergamo next week.
