In response to reports of a clash erupting in the Ile-Epo area of Lagos state, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of over 50 individuals allegedly involved in the altercation.
According to information garnered earlier , the conflict, which commenced Wednesday night and extended into Thursday morning, saw hoodlums engaging in violence within the market premises located in the area, resulting in the torching of the market and significant damage to property.
In an official statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, it was affirmed that tranquilly has been reinstated in the vicinity.
The statement disclosed, “Over fifty suspects have so far been arrested while the shanties they occupied have been destroyed, effectively dislodging them.”
Additionally, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has mandated the swift prosecution of the detained individuals, emphasising a firm stance against any further disturbance of the peace, in accordance with the law.
The statement further outlined the deployment of law enforcement personnel to the area to prevent any potential escalation of disorder.
It noted, “Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Area Commander Alagbado, and other Divisional Police Officers under the Area Command are currently on the ground to forestall further breakdown of law and order.”
