Rugby Africa President to Address Business of Sports at Africa CEO Forum
The President of Rugby Africa, Herbert Mensah, is set to participate in a panel discussion focusing on the business aspects of sports at the upcoming 2024 Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda. This event, organized in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), serves as a significant gathering for the African private sector.
The Africa CEO Forum, established in 2012, stands as the largest annual assembly of African private sector leaders. It brings together over 2,000 African and international industry captains, public decision-makers, and influential figures to deliberate on the continent’s foremost priorities and shape its business agenda.
During the forum, Mensah will engage in discussions alongside Clare Akamanzi, CEO of NBA Africa, to delve into Africa’s sporting industry’s business potential.
The conversation will highlight recent successes such as the Basketball Africa League, Morocco’s bid for the 2030 World Cup, the CAF Champions League’s establishment, South Africa’s Rugby World Cup triumph, and the anticipated return of Formula 1 to Africa.
These developments underscore Africa’s burgeoning sports sector, aligning with the global sports market valued at over $600 billion and growing steadily at 5% annually.
Mensah’s advocacy for increased investment in rugby across Africa will be a focal point of the discussion.
As Rugby Africa’s president, he has actively promoted the sport’s commercial viability. Mensah’s engagements at previous events like the Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Africa 2023 and the Africa Investment Forum highlight his commitment to driving transformation and growth in Africa’s sports industry.
