Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are scheduled to visit Nigeria in May 2024 to fortify ties with the Invictus Games initiative.
The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry, aims to provide a platform for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel from around the world to showcase their resilience and determination.
With over 500 participants and 21 nations in attendance at the last event, including Nigeria’s notable performance with gold and silver medals, the Games have become a symbol of rehabilitation and recognition for military personnel.
Brigadier General Tukur Vusau, Acting Director of Defence Information,em phasized the significance of Prince Harry and Meghan’s visit in solidifying Nigeria’s position within the Invictus Games community. He stated, “The visit is to consolidate Nigeria’s stronghold at the game and explore the possibility of hosting the event in later years.”
Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, who attended last year’s Invictus Games in Germany, has already expressed Nigeria’s willingness to host the prestigious event in the future. The visit of the royal couple is expected to further strengthen this commitment and pave the way for future collaborations between Nigeria and the Invictus Games organizers.
During their stay in Nigeria, Prince Harry and Meghan will engage with service members and participate in various cultural activities.
