The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has taken decisive action following disturbing allegations of sexual harassment involving one of its faculty members. Mr. Mfonobong David Udoudom, a lecturer in the General Studies division, has been suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of a thorough investigation.
The incident came to light after a video surfaced online allegedly showing Mr. Udoudom harassing a female student, purportedly threatening to fail her unless she engaged in sexual activity with him.
Shockingly, the victim is reported to be a married woman, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
According to sources within the university, the lecturer had allegedly made advances towards several female students, but the situation escalated when the victim, who is married, refused his demands and instead offered money.
However, Mr. Udoudom reportedly insisted on sexual favours, prompting the victim to inform her husband and lodge a complaint with university authorities.
In response to the serious allegations, the University of Nigeria has taken swift action, emphasising its zero-tolerance policy towards sexual misconduct involving staff and students. Dr. Okwun Omeaku, the acting Public Relations Officer, affirmed the university’s commitment to protecting students from all forms of abuse and exploitation.
Dr. Omeaku announced that an investigative panel has been constituted to thoroughly examine the incident. He reiterated that if Mr. Udoudom is found guilty by the disciplinary panel, the university will not hesitate to impose appropriate sanctions in accordance with its rules and regulations.
The suspension of Mr. Mfonobong David Udoudom underscores the university’s dedication to upholding integrity, respect, and a safe learning environment for all its students.
