The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has recently unveiled a groundbreaking initiative known as the Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Business Incubation Certification (EIBIC) programme.
This initiative promises to revolutionise the educational landscape by offering students the opportunity to earn two certificates upon graduation.
During the official launch of the programme, Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa, the university’s deputy vice chancellor for development services, highlighted its significance in addressing socioeconomic disparities while preparing students for the evolving job market.
Emphasising the pivotal role of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth, Atsenuwa underscored that the EIBIC programme is not merely an optional activity but a Senate-approved course at UNILAG.
The Director of the Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre, Prof. Sunday Adebisi, elaborated on the programme’s structure, revealing that students will receive EIBIC certificates alongside their respective degree certificates upon successful completion.
This pioneering move positions UNILAG as the first university to confer two honours or degrees, ensuring that students fulfil both the EIBIC programme requirements and their academic studies before graduating.
Adebisi further outlined that the programme’s timeline has been meticulously crafted, mandating students to complete it to qualify for degree awards. The overarching objective is to equip students with a dual skill set, thereby enhancing their employability and entrepreneurial acumen.
UNILAG’s EIBIC programme marks a significant step towards nurturing a new generation of versatile professionals equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
