In a brazen attack on Saturday, March 23, suspected terrorists targeted a military base in Gujba town, located in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The assailants, who struck around midnight, engaged in indiscriminate shooting and set ablaze a military patrol vehicle during the assault.
Confirming the incident, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, disclosed that the attackers fatally wounded a soldier and inflicted damage on military property before being repelled by troops and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members.
Eyewitnesses recounted harrowing experiences as the attackers stormed the town, forcing residents to flee for safety into nearby bushes.
Fortunately, no civilian casualties were reported, and the assailants did not engage in looting or other forms of violence against the populace.
This attack follows a recent spate of violence in Delta State, where 15 soldiers, including two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers, lost their lives during a communal clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities.
The soldiers were responding to a distress call when they were tragically killed in the line of duty.
