Ghana’s Black Princesses Secure Victory Over Nigeria’s Falconets in African Games Football Event; But Coach Danjuma Believes His Team Will Be Ready For The World Cup Despite The Result.

In a captivating match on Thursday night, Ghana’s Black Princesses staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Nigeria’s Falconets 2-1 in the African Games 2023 football event. This victory marked the end of Falconets’ reign as African Games champions, with the Black Princesses emerging victorious after extra-time.

Following the intense clash, Falconets head coach Chris Danjuma addressed the media in a post-match press conference, providing insights into his team’s performance and the challenges they encountered during the final.

When asked about his team’s performance, Coach Danjuma remained steadfast, stating, “Nothing went wrong.” He emphasized that the tournament was a platform to build the team for future endeavors, particularly the upcoming World Cup. Despite the defeat, Danjuma expressed satisfaction with his team’s progress, indicating that they had achieved 70% of their set targets.

Regarding his team’s loss of concentration and the pressure they faced, Danjuma acknowledged the nature of the game, noting that undue pressure can lead to lapses in focus, especially among young female players.

Responding to queries about his interactions with officials, Danjuma clarified that his actions may have been misinterpreted, emphasizing that his concerns were communicated appropriately, although not always visible to spectators.

Discussing individual performances, Danjuma highlighted the contribution of Christabel Nwosu, acknowledging her adherence to the team’s game plan despite the outcome. He recognized Nwosu’s efforts while identifying areas for improvement, stating, “All we needed was one perfect cross, and we got our goal from it. She did her best, but I think the best was not good enough.”

Regarding the delay tactics employed by his goalkeeper, Danjuma attributed it to a learning process, emphasizing the goalkeeper’s development as they gain experience and understanding of the game’s intricacies.

Looking ahead, Danjuma reiterated his coaching philosophy focused on helping players achieve their life goals, expressing confidence that many of his players will rise to become world stars in the future.

As both teams reflect on the African Games final, the Black Princesses celebrate their triumph while the Falconets regroup for future challenges, marking a significant chapter in their footballing journeys.
