A fire outbreak wreaked havoc in Idumota market in Lagos on Wednesday, consuming three buildings and causing huge damage of properties.
The fire, which reportedly began around 7 am on Wednesday at the junction of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo streets, engulfed two two-storey structures and one three-storey building.
The affected buildings housed numerous shops and warehouses, containing merchandise valued at millions of naira. As flames tore through the market, traders watched helplessly as their livelihoods turned to ashes.
Margaret Adeseye, director of the Lagos State Rescue Service, confirmed the incident, stating that firefighting efforts were immediately initiated upon discovery of the fire.
Firefighters from multiple stations, including Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju, and Alausa, quickly mobilized resources to combat the blaze and prevent its spread further.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, and investigations are ongoing.
