President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ms. Hafsat Abubakar Bakari as the Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), pending Senate confirmation.
This was revealed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale.
Ms. Bakari, a seasoned lawyer and financial intelligence expert, brings years of experience in anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and counter-proliferation financing (AML/CFT/CPF) to her new role.
Previously serving as Deputy Director at the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, Ms. Bakari has held various key positions within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including Head of the General Services Unit, Head of the Strategy and Reorientation Unit, and Head of the Board Secretariat.
President Tinubu expects Ms. Bakari to leverage her extensive expertise in combating illicit financial flows and other fraudulent activities within the nation’s foreign exchange markets.
