President Bola Tinubu has conferred national honours on all members of the Super Eagles squad that won the silver medal at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
The president also gifted a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a flat to each of them for their feat as a way of appreciating them for their efforts in the competition.
Nigeria’s quest to win the AFCON title for the fourth time in their history came to a disappointing end after they lost 2-1 to host Cote d’Ivoire in the final on Sunday.
The Eagles opened the scoring through William Troost-Ekong’s powerful header in the first half, but Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller scored in the second half to seal the victory for the Ivorians.
While receiving the team at the presidential villa, Abuja, earlier today, President Tinubu conferred on every member of the Super Eagles’ squad with Member of the Order of Niger (MON).
The president then praised the team’s resilience, sportsmanship and willful spirit.
He likewise thanked the players for lifting the nation’s spirit with their performance at the AFCON tournament.
The hosting ceremony was concluded with presentation of forms by FCT minister Nyesome Wike, to all squad members to fill out and claim their gifts of lands and apartments in the country’s capital city.
