Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, voiced his concerns over what he termed as “reckless policies” enacted during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, attributing them to the current economic hardship facing Nigerians.
Oshiomhole lamented the adverse effects of these policies, stating that they were designed to further burden an already struggling population. He emphasized his loyalty to Nigeria and highlighted his previous protests against policies he believed were detrimental to the nation’s well-being.
Echoing similar sentiments, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, defended President Bola Tinubu against blame for the ongoing economic challenges.
Sanusi asserted that the root cause of Nigeria’s economic woes stemmed from mismanaged policies during the past eight years, which resulted in a staggering national debt exceeding N30 trillion.
Sanusi emphasized that while Tinubu may not be entirely exempt from criticism, he should not be held solely responsible for the current economic situation.
He urged fairness in assessing Tinubu’s role, pointing out that the country’s economic struggles were deeply entrenched and predated his potential involvement.
Sanusi and Oshiomhole both urged against blatant scapegoating and emphasised the need for a nuanced understanding of Nigeria’s economic challenges.
They stated that in order to steer the nation towards a sustainable recovery, systemic problems must be addressed and sensible economic policies must be put in place.
