Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and African business tycoon Aliko Dangote held a meeting with President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Kinshasa, the capital city.
The purpose of the meeting was to explore investment opportunities in the country, particularly with the involvement of one of Africa’s most prominent investors, Dangote.
According to Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the meeting aimed to congratulate President Tshisekedi on his re-election and discuss the progress of the DRC-Nigeria Business Council. Obasanjo also highlighted the potential for closer ties and economic integration between Nigeria and the DRC through initiatives like the business council.
Dangote expressed his intention to make substantial investments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in the mining and agricultural sectors.
He emphasised the importance of seeking President Tshisekedi’s blessing for these investment plans.
The meeting underscores the growing interest of Nigerian investors, represented by Dangote, in exploring business opportunities in the Central African region.
Discussions focused on fostering economic cooperation and facilitating investment in key sectors to drive development and prosperity in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
