Super Eagles of Nigeria has paid their last respect to fans and supporters of the Nigerian national team that tragically lost their lives while cheering them on against South Africa on Wednesday night.
The Super Eagles learned of their passing yesterday. And in a bid to show our important and valued they are, the Super Eagles of Nigeria paid their last respect to the departed Nigerians who tragically lost their lives.
The statement on their official X account reads:
“During the course of our semi-final match, we tragically lost few supporters. In a cruel twist of fate, their fervent passion for the beautiful game unwittingly led them to their final moments”
“As the Nigeria vs South Africa match unfolded, they were lost in the thrill of the game, unaware of the looming danger. May their souls find eternal peace, forever remembered for their love of football and the togetherness it brings. Rest in peace.”
According to the information we gathered, the notable individuals who lost their lives as a result of the encounter against South Africa include:
A Nigerian Businessman, Chief Osondu Nwoye who passed on while watching Nigeria and South Africa’s game.He was the CEO of Groupe Auto Promotion. He collapsed after a goal was cancelled.
A Nigerian University Staff, Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi also passed on while watching the game. He was the Deputy Bursar of KWASU.
Former Nigerian Lawmaker, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh also passed on while watching the AFCON game.
Likewise a Nigerian graduate and Corps member, Samuel also passed on while watching the game.
