William Troost-Ekong the Super Eagles captain, has named Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand as one of the players he would give his No.5 jersey up for amid the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
William Troost-Ekong said this via a post on his official X account after Nigeria defeated South Africa on Wednesday to qualify for the AFCON final.
Recall that Troost-Ekong was exceptional leading by example, as the Super Eagles beat the Bafana Bafana to set up a final clash with the host nation, Ivory Coast on Sunday.
Rio Ferdinand the Manchester United legend had shown his support to the Super Eagles, posting several Nigerian flag on X and shared a picture of him holding the Super Eagles jersey with “Ferdinand 5” boldly written on it.
Troost-Ekong was pleased by the support from the former Manchester United Player and he retweeted Ferdinand’s post and wrote: “One of the few players I would be willing to give my number up for! Legend!”
With just one more hurdle in front of him and his team mates, Troost-Ekong will be hoping he and the men can lead Nigeria to victory when they face Ivory Coast in the final. In what would be a remarkable feet for the Nigerian defender.
