The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has granted exclusive licenses to Nairaxi and Bolt for operating ride-hailing apps in Abuja under its Public Transport Management Scheme.
The announcement was made yesterday by the FCTA Transportation Secretariat through its Public Transport Management Scheme under the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS-FCT).
This strategic decision designates Bolt and Nairaxi as the only licensed ride-hailing operators authorized to provide on-demand transport and logistics services through mobile applications in the Federal Capital Territory.
“The Administration will soon commence enforcement operations on non-compliant operators, and others are expected to initiate their licensing processes to avoid being banned from operating in the FCT,” stated the official release.
The primary objective of this move is to address insecurity challenges through the implementation of verifiable data tracking and to bring about other significant benefits in the nation’s capital. The licensing of Nairaxi and Bolt is poised to improve and regulate e-ride-hailing operations, ensuring service excellence in Abuja.
Immediate enforcement operations are set to be initiated by the FCTA to clamp down on unlicensed operators in Abuja. The Public Transport Management Scheme also warns of a potential ban on operators without the FCTA Public Transport Management License.
A driver, sharing insights, described the FCTA’s license as a platform that allows operators to work within specified regulations, fostering commuters’ confidence and safety. The authorization of the Nairaxi Mobile App and Bolt is based on their top-notch digital transport and logistics services in the FCT.
Bolt, a globally recognized transportation mobility company, operates in 500 cities, boasting a network of more than 3 million drivers and over 150 million customers. The mobile app offered by Bolt is known for its convenience, user-friendliness, and robust security features.
On the other hand, Nairaxi, an indigenous mobility tech company, focuses on intelligent mass transportation systems and ride-hailing technologies. The company earned distinction by winning the innovator’s competition organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in February 2023.
