John Obi Mikel, the former Chelsea and Nigeria Midfielder has hailed Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali for his impressive performances at the ongoing AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
Mikel Obi said Nwabali has managed to become the talk of the tournament, so far, due to his impressive displays for Nigeria.
According to the former Super Eagles captain, the Chippa United shot-stopper has become one of the favourites for Nigerian fans.
“When you look through the whole team everybody has been absolutely superb, starting from the goalkeeper which is something I talked about before the tournament. I said one position we need to make sure we sort out is the goalkeeping position and we’ve managed to do that,” Obi Mikel said on The Obi One Podcast.
“He’s based in Africa and he’s managed to become the talk of the tournament, he’s become one of the favourites for the Nigerian fans. He’s put in very good performances”
“Before we scored the goal against Angola, there was a massive save that he made. If the ball went in, it would have been a different ball game.
Nwabali currently has four clean sheets to his name conceding just one goal so far in the on going AFCON tournament.
Nwabali is expected to maintain his spot between the post for Jose Peseiro’s men when they take on South Africa in the semi-final clash for a spot in the final of the tournament on Wednesday.
