The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has forewarned citizens of an impending dust haze set to envelop the northern region for three consecutive days, starting Tuesday.
According to the forecast released on Sunday, NiMet predicts moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km over the northern part of the country. The North Central region is expected to experience similar conditions, with localized horizontal visibility potentially dropping below 1000m.
The agency has urged residents to take precautions, emphasizing the suspension of dust particles in the air. NiMet advises the use of face masks, particularly for those with respiratory issues like asthma. Additionally, it recommends that children and the elderly wear warm clothing at night.
In a specific health advisory, NiMet encourages people to pay special attention to their skin, eyes, and lips during this period. Moisturizing is highly recommended to counteract the potential adverse effects of the dust haze.
Airline operators are not exempt from NiMet’s advisory. They are urged to stay updated with the latest weather reports and forecasts to facilitate effective planning in their operations.
