Dangote Refinery, with a $20 billion investment, is set to release refined products, particularly diesel and aviation fuel, into the market this January.
The announcement follows the successful delivery of six million barrels of crude oil to the 650,000 barrels-per-day plant in recent weeks.
President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing his crucial support in overcoming obstacles and expediting the project. Dangote also acknowledged the NNPC, NUPRC, NMDPRA, and Nigerians for their unwavering support.
In a significant milestone for Nigeria, Dangote Refinery marks a game-changer, set to meet domestic demands and contribute to large-scale capital projects. The refinery, designed for 100% Nigerian crude, boasts the capability to process various African and Middle Eastern crudes, including US Light tight oil.
The facility ensures self-sufficiency, with the ability to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel. Notably, it has a surplus available for export.
Built with state-of-the-art infrastructure, the refinery utilizes Single Point Mooring Systems (SPMs) for crude intake and product discharge, located 25 kilometers from the shore. It can load 2,900 trucks daily at its gantries, accommodating the largest vessels globally.
Dangote Refinery also adheres to stringent environmental standards, conforming to Euro V specifications, US EPA, European emission norms, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) emission/effluent norms, and African Refiners and Distribution Association (ARDA) standards.
As production commenced after the first crude delivery on December 12, 2023, and subsequent cargo deliveries, Nigerians can anticipate the availability of diesel and aviation fuel in the market by the end of January, pending regulatory approvals. This marks a pivotal moment for the nation’s energy landscape.
