The Lagos State Cash Transfer Unit has initiated the enrollment process for the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme, which is part of the National Social Safety Net Project Scale-Up (NASSP-SU).

The program, spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to disburse more than N30 billion to support the poor and vulnerable across Lagos in the next six months.

The funding will be sourced from the Economic Shock Response Cash transfer and the Extended Regular Cash Transfer (ER-CT). The Renewed Hope CCT Programme seeks to provide financial relief to citizens in all 36 states of the Federation.

Commissioner for the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment in Lagos, Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, highlighted that the NASSP-SU represents a crucial aspect of government support policies, emphasizing the focus on leaving no one behind.

The program is geared towards aiding impoverished communities and individuals, contributing to sustainable socioeconomic development and poverty reduction.

Beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer are expected to receive N25,000 per circle for three payment cycles, totaling N75,000.

The Extended Regular component will provide beneficiaries with N10,000 bi-monthly, accumulating to N60,000. Over 283,003 households are set to benefit from this initiative across 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state.

Acknowledging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to the welfare of the less privileged, Ajigbotafe praised the government’s humanitarian programs catering to the poorest and most vulnerable citizens in Lagos.

The Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer, launched by President Bola Tinubu in November 2023, is a response to economic shocks resulting from government policies, natural disasters, and pandemics affecting livelihoods in Nigeria.

The program, with a budget of N18.4 billion, targets 283,003 poor and vulnerable households in Lagos, providing them with much-needed financial support.

The enrollment process involves 186 Cash Transfer Facilitators, who will undergo training to ensure efficient implementation. All beneficiaries will be paid through their bank accounts, with new accounts being opened for those without existing accounts, aligning with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recent directives.

The State Programme Manager, Mrs. Lola Korede Orimogunje, emphasized the ongoing enrollment across all Local Government Areas, Wards, and Communities in the state.

Beneficiaries are urged to provide their National Identification Numbers (NIN) during enrollment to meet eligibility criteria for opening bank accounts. The ten-day enrollment exercise commenced last week, marking a significant step towards poverty reduction in Lagos.
