Same-sex Marriage: Nigerians Bash Pastor Kumuyi For Focusing On ‘Wrong Thing’

Days after Pope Francis announced that blessings can be given to same-sex couples, Nigerians are questioning the Nigerian Catholic leadership about whether they will truly obey the Pope.

In response, Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper Life Ministry opposes same-sex marriage, contrasting with the Pope’s decision.

During the opening ceremony of the joint event “Emmanuel” at the Deeper Life International Conference Centre on Wednesday, Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, expressed his disapproval of same-sex marriage, asserting that it contradicts the command of Jesus Christ to Christians.

Kumuyi, addressing the gathering at the KM 48 Lagos-Ibadan Expressway venue, stated, “The Lord Jesus Christ told us before he left that we should go to the world, teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.”

He emphasised obedience to Christ’s command for a man to marry a woman, declaring, “We stand in obedience to Christ and submissive to him, and we carry on the works of Christ that said a man and a woman should be joined together in marriage until death do us part.”

Meanwhile, Nigerians have criticised the pastor, accusing him of focusing on the “wrong thing.” Govima monitored comments from a few Nigerians on X, a social media platform.

@ogechukwuchime

“It is not the problem we are facing in Nigeria but leadership problem. What did Bible say about bad leaders, forgers, perjurers, mandate thieves, identity thief? These are the issues that has made the country bad not same sex marriage.”

@Mr_Francis55

“ What of election riggers? Are they biblical”

While @correct_lawyer questing Netizens who are challenging the Pastor Opinion saying “ What is wrong with you. So because he is man of God he should only speak about the problems facing Nigeria, and he should not talk about other societal issues.If you don’t have anything to say abeg est. “

@Julikay572 “I think you should add fake drugs, beverages,spare parts, alcohol producers and carrier of dangerous drugs into your list then I will know you are a patriot”
