United States And France Collaborate On Advancing Sustainable Infrastructure

The Governments of the United States of America and France, in a  significant strides were announced in the field of sustainable infrastructure following the Sustainable Infrastructure Panel held on December 6, 2023, at the French pavilion during the Conference of the Parties 28 (COP 28).

The Blue Dot Network (BDN) and Finance to Accelerate the Sustainable Transition – Infrastructure (FAST-Infra) revealed their plans to join forces in a collaborative effort to introduce innovative solutions aimed at catalyzing private sector investment in quality, sustainable, and climate-resilient infrastructure projects.

Both initiatives, BDN and FAST-Infra, are aligned with the G20 Principles for Quality Infrastructure Investment, with the common goal of addressing the multi-trillion dollar infrastructure gap and accelerating efforts towards achieving global net-zero emissions.

Their initiatives contribute significantly to the evolution of sustainable infrastructure as an asset class.

The Blue Dot Network, a certification mechanism implemented by the United States, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Switzerland in partnership with the OECD, focuses on promoting robust standards and international best practices for quality infrastructure projects.

The certification it provides is intended to signal to investors and stakeholders that infrastructure projects ensure debt sustainability, value for money, and align with financial, social, and environmental sustainability principles, while also contributing to global climate goals.

FAST-Infra Group (FIG), a multi-stakeholder market-led initiative launched under the One Planet Summit, has set ambitious objectives. It aims to promote solutions that contribute to the development and enhancement of sustainable, affordable, and inclusive infrastructure services.

Furthermore, the initiative seeks to establish sustainable infrastructure as a mainstream and liquid asset class, integrate sustainability into the life cycle of infrastructure projects, and attract private investment on a significant scale.

The collaboration between Blue Dot Network and FAST-Infra Group involves working towards interoperability between the two initiatives. Both entities plan to assess projects using both BDN and FIG methodologies, identifying areas of complementarity for mutual recognition.

These joint efforts mark a crucial step in advancing sustainable infrastructure, emphasizing the commitment of nations to uphold international best practices and standards for quality infrastructure development while addressing critical global challenges.
