The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, academically and infrastructurally.
The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Iman Sulaiman Ibrahim, emphasized this dedication during a supervisory visit to the academy on Wednesday.
The administration, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to align the academy with modern policing requirements to address emerging security threats in the country.
Minister Ibrahim highlighted the government’s recognition of the academy’s significance, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive review of the curriculum. This review aims to meet contemporary police standards and effectively tackle evolving security challenges.
The minister also stressed the importance of significant investment in infrastructure, including hostels, health centers, classrooms, and training grounds, to meet world-class standards.
In addressing the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force, the government acknowledges the necessity to expand the number of trained police officers. Minister Ibrahim expressed appreciation for the importance of enhancing the academy’s capacity to admit more cadets.
This expansion is crucial to ensuring a continuous supply of well-prepared professionals to strengthen the police force.
As the sole degree-awarding police training institution in Nigeria, the academy is expected to set high standards for excellence. The minister emphasized the academy’s role in producing graduates with the highest ideals of professionalism, commitment, and dedication to community protection.
Minister Ibrahim underscored the seriousness of the screening and recruitment process for cadets. Rigorous screening ensures that only individuals with the highest ethical standards and a deep commitment to public service join the police force. This meticulous selection process is fundamental to building the future of the police force and upholding the academy’s prestige.
The minister concluded by highlighting the vision of the Nigeria Police Force, aiming for a world-class, inclusive, technology-driven, intelligence-led, and effective institution. This vision aligns with the constitutional mandate of protecting lives and properties while fostering renewed hope for the future of law enforcement in Nigeria.
