Don’t underrate São Tomé says Peseiro
Super Eagles disappointing outing against Mexico and World Cup-bound Ecuador was over turn when they defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 in their first opening match of the AFCON qualifiers.
The super Eagles will now face Sao Tome in their next fixture. Head coach, Jose Peseiro has said his players must be at their best to overcome the Falcons of Sao Tome and Principe in Monday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The fans will be expecting the Super Eagles to win the match with ease, with no room for errors in the game. Looking down on São Tomé will not be allowed.
The Super Eagles are the favourites to win this encounter, judging by the pedigree of both teams.
Sao Tome were humbled 5-1 by the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau on matchday one, while Super Eagles defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 at home.
Despite the gap between both teams, Peseiro has warned his players not to underrate the Leone Stars.
“Sao Tome have good players in their team. We saw their last game, even though they lost, but didn’t do too badly,” Peseiro told a press conference in Agadir, Morocco.
“We respect them. It’s good to respect your opponent in football.
“We need to be at our best to beat them. We have to show strong desire and determination,” he said.
The Super Eagles will now face São Tomé at the Adrar Stadium, Agadir, 2pm Nigerian time.
