WAEC Temporarily Shuts Down Result Portal Amid Review Of 2025 WASSCE Results.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a temporary shutdown of its online result checker portal after discovering technical issues affecting the integrity of the recently released 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. The glitches were identified during a post-release internal audit.
Paper serialisation—an innovation introduced to curb examination malpractice—was deployed in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. Although intended to enhance assessment integrity, the system inadvertently caused inconsistencies in the uploaded scores.
WAEC has extended a formal apology to candidates and the general public for the inconvenience. A statement from the Council’s spokesperson, Moyosola Adesina, conveyed that resolving the glitches is being treated with urgency and transparency. Affected candidates, including those who have already checked their results, are advised to re‑check after 24 hours.
Reports indicate this year’s WASSCE marks one of the lowest performances in recent memory, with only approximately 38 per cent of candidates achieving credits in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics—significantly lower than the 72 per cent recorded in 2024.
Public criticism has intensified, particularly over the portal crash and the unexpected turnaround on result accessibility. Many candidates and parents questioned the exam body’s reliability, while others linked the poor outcomes to logistical failures—such as some students being required to sit the English examination late into the night under strenuous conditions.
WAEC affirmed its continuing commitment to fairness, professionalism, and excellence, assuring stakeholders of its integrity and dedication to quality service. The Council reiterated its pledge to resolve all identified issues within the next 24 hours.
