NSCDC Seizes Truck Loaded With Vandalised Street Light Poles In Abuja.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has intercepted a truck carrying suspected vandalised street light poles in Abuja, thwarting an attempt to transport the stolen infrastructure to Kano. The operation, conducted by the Command’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Crack Team, took place during a routine patrol along the Jabi axis on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, highlighting the Corps’ commitment to protecting public assets.
According to Monica Ojobi, Acting Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, the truck was flagged down by the NSCDC’s crack squad, but the driver and his assistant fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle and its illicit cargo. Their refusal to stop for questioning raised suspicions, prompting the team to impound the truck and tow it to the Command’s headquarters for further investigation. FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu condemned the act, describing vandalism as a deliberate sabotage of government efforts to provide essential amenities for residents.

Commandant Odumosu has directed the NSCDC’s Intelligence and Investigations Department to trace the origin and ownership of the vandalised poles, vowing that those responsible will face the full force of the law. He warned vandals and their collaborators to cease such activities or face severe consequences, stating, “The eagle eye of this Command is beaming searchlights in every nook and cranny of the territory.” He also cautioned Pantaker markets in the FCT against trading in stolen government property, threatening closure for non-compliance.
The NSCDC urged residents to play an active role in safeguarding public infrastructure by reporting suspicious activities to its emergency lines: 09166229882 or 08159066244. The Corps emphasised that public cooperation is vital to curbing vandalism, which undermines the collective welfare of citizens. This interception follows a similar operation in November 2024, when the FCT Command seized another truck carrying vandalised infrastructure, including manhole covers and communication mast accessories, demonstrating the ongoing challenge of protecting critical national assets.
The successful operation has been hailed as a significant step in the NSCDC’s intensified efforts to combat vandalism in the FCT. With investigations underway to identify those behind the crime, the Command reiterated its resolve to ensure that culprits face prosecution, reinforcing the government’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of public infrastructure in Nigeria’s capital.
