Former Minister Labels Tinubu’s Administration A ‘Disastrous Catastrophe’ Compared To Buhari.

Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, a former Minister oBuharf Police Affairs and a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as a “disastrous catastrophe” that surpasses the shortcomings of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government. Speaking during an interview with Trust Television on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, Waziri expressed alarm at the state of governance in Nigeria, warning that the country is spiralling into deeper crises under Tinubu’s leadership.

Waziri, a vocal critic of the current administration, argued that Tinubu’s government has failed across all major sectors, including security, the economy, and anti-corruption efforts. “If the Buhari government was a failure, the Tinubu government in the last two years is a disastrous catastrophe,” he stated, adding that the nation has regressed significantly since Tinubu assumed office on 29 May 2023. He highlighted escalating insecurity, with many local governments under bandit control, worsening economic hardship, and a perceived rise in corruption as hallmarks of the administration’s tenure.

The former minister expressed disbelief at public endorsements of the government, particularly from leaders in regions plagued by violence. “I am surprised that people whose local governments are under the control of bandits can appear on national television to endorse this government,” Waziri remarked, urging Nigerians to critically evaluate the administration’s performance beyond media optics and choreographed support.

Waziri’s comments echo broader concerns raised by the ADC, which has previously accused Tinubu’s government of “fiscal vandalism” through excessive borrowing, with Nigeria’s public debt projected to exceed ₦200 trillion by year-end. The party has called for greater transparency in loan agreements and stronger fiscal discipline to address the nation’s economic woes. The former minister’s critique has sparked significant discussion on platforms like X, where users have amplified his remarks, reflecting growing public frustration with the state of governance.

As Nigeria grapples with economic collapse, heightened ethnocentrism, and persistent insecurity, Waziri’s remarks underscore the urgent need for a sober assessment of the country’s direction. With the 2027 elections looming, his call for accountability and effective leadership is likely to resonate with a populace increasingly disillusioned by unfulfilled promises and mounting challenges.
