Nigerian music icon 9ice has addressed rumors surrounding his frequent use of Yoruba proverbs in his songs.
In a conversation with content creator Bae U, 9ice clarified that his knowledge of proverbs doesn’t stem from being an herbalist, but rather from his late stepmother’s teachings.
“I am not an herbalist. I am a Yoruba man from Oyo state, and I learnt all the proverbs from my late stepmum. While trying to create songs, I decided to use all those.”
With over a decade in the music industry, 9ice is renowned for hits like ‘Street Credibility’, ‘No Be Mistake’, and ‘Living Things’. His 2008 album ‘Gongo Aso’ earned him the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Hip Hop Artist.
9ice’s accolades include four Hip Hop World Awards in 2009: Album of the Year, Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Rap in Pop Album. He founded Alapomeji Ancestral Records.
