Young Technician Electrocuted While Working On Power Line In Oyo.

A tragic incident occurred in the Odo Babaode area of Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Council, Oyo State, as a 28-year-old technician lost his life while attempting to fix an electrical fault on a high tension cable.

The victim, whose identity was yet to be confirmed as of the time of reporting, was reportedly working on a power line owned by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) without first deactivating the power supply to the feeder. The accident took place on Wednesday, 23rd April 2025.

According to the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka, the agency received a distress call at approximately 3:29 p.m. and promptly dispatched a response team to the scene.

“Our personnel, led by PFS1 Peluola Babatunde, responded swiftly but, regrettably, found the young man already electrocuted. All safety measures were taken to secure the area and protect members of the public,” Mr Akinyinka stated.

The deceased’s body was recovered and handed over to officers from the Eruwa Police Station for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with working on live electrical installations without proper safety procedures. Authorities have since urged technicians and utility workers to strictly follow safety protocols when dealing with high-voltage systems.

Further updates are expected following the outcome of the police investigation.
