What I Told Fubara When We Met, Wike Reveals.
Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has shed light on a recent meeting with the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike disclosed that Fubara visited him alongside two governors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
While Wike refrained from divulging specific details of their discussion, he revealed that he was candid with Fubara about the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. “I told him I don’t think you really have the capacity to make this peace,” Wike stated, addressing the suspended governor’s efforts to resolve the unrest.
Wike, known for his forthright approach, expressed scepticism about Fubara’s ability to broker peace, pointing to the actions of the governor’s allies. He noted that Fubara’s associates have been publicly criticising others on television, which Wike believes undermines any genuine attempt at reconciliation. “You cannot be suing for peace while your lieutenants are busy all over television stations abusing others,” he remarked.
The minister further advised Fubara to engage with key stakeholders to restore stability in Rivers State. He specifically urged the suspended governor to meet with the State Assembly, the party leadership, and other relevant figures to foster dialogue and unity.
The political turmoil in Rivers State has drawn significant attention, with tensions escalating following Fubara’s suspension. Wike’s comments highlight the complexities of resolving the crisis, underscoring the need for broader consultation and sincerity in peace efforts.
As the situation develops, all eyes remain on Rivers State, with stakeholders and observers keenly awaiting the next steps towards restoring calm and governance in the region.
