The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has designated the Federal Polytechnic Offa as a pivotal center for the first-ever Computer-Based Testing (CBT) West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates in Kwara State.

In an official letter directed to the Rector, WAEC sought approval for the Polytechnic’s facility to serve as a venue for these groundbreaking exams.

The WAEC team, led by Branch Controller Mr. Akhanemeh M.A, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and approval extended by the Polytechnic’s Management, headed by Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin FNSE. Mr. Akhanemeh revealed that WAEC is actively considering a transition to CBT examinations, with the maiden exams scheduled to commence in February 2024 for private candidates.

Underlining the rationale behind the shift, Mr. Akhanemeh emphasized that the move towards CBT aligns with the demands of the digital era, aiming to provide a more streamlined and less stressful examination experience for candidates. The Rector, in welcoming the WAEC team, affirmed the Polytechnic’s robust CBT examination center status, further mentioning ongoing extensive renovations to enhance its facilities.

Engr. Dr. Kadiri expressed gratitude to WAEC for selecting the Federal Polytechnic Offa as a prominent center in Kwara State, assuring WAEC of a seamless and technologically advanced examination process at the Polytechnic’s CBT Center. He stated, “I want to sincerely appreciate the West African Examinations Council for considering the Federal Polytechnic Offa as the second Centre out of the two centres picked in the entire Kwara State.”

Additionally, he highlighted the institution’s prior recognition by JAMB for the last examinations and commended WAEC for its commendable initiative to embrace digital advancements in the current ICT world. He concluded by assuring WAEC that the maiden CBT exams would be conducted successfully at the Federal Polytechnic Offa CBT center.
