United States Excludes Nigeria, UK, Others From 2025 Visa Waiver Programme List.
The United States has released its updated list of eligible countries for the 2025 Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), with notable changes, including the removal of the United Kingdom under standard conditions and the addition of Romania.
The VWP enables citizens of participating countries to travel to the U.S. for tourism or business for up to 90 days without requiring a visa. However, travellers must obtain prior approval through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) and meet all specified requirements.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs, while the United Kingdom is no longer included under general eligibility, it remains eligible under specific conditions. Meanwhile, the list continues to exclude African nations such as Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa.
The agency clarified that travellers from eligible countries still have the option to apply for a visitor visa if they prefer.
The 2025 VWP update also introduces policy changes regarding permit eligibility, revisions to the list of participating countries, and new travel policies. These changes reflect ongoing adjustments to U.S. immigration and border security policies.
