Tinubu Announces Scholarship Programme For OECS Students To Study In Nigeria

Tinubu Announces Scholarship Programme For OECS Students To Study In Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has revealed that a new scholarship programme for students from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) will begin in the upcoming academic year, enabling them to pursue higher education in Nigerian universities. The initiative aims to strengthen educational and cultural ties between Nigeria and the OECS, fostering opportunities for academic excellence and collaboration.

The announcement, made during a recent address, underscores Nigeria’s commitment to supporting international students and promoting educational exchange. The programme will provide selected OECS students with access to a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at leading Nigerian institutions. President Tinubu highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance Nigeria’s role as a hub for quality education in Africa and beyond.

Officials from the Nigerian Ministry of Education are working closely with OECS representatives to finalise the programme’s structure, including eligibility criteria and application processes. The scholarships are expected to cover tuition fees and may include additional support for accommodation and living expenses, ensuring recipients can focus on their studies.

This move has been warmly welcomed by educational leaders in both Nigeria and the OECS. Dr. Didacus Jules, Director General of the OECS, described the programme as a “significant step” towards building stronger partnerships between the regions. He noted that it would provide Caribbean students with access to Nigeria’s vibrant academic environment and diverse cultural heritage.

The scholarship programme is set to commence in the next academic year, with further details on applications to be released soon. It is expected to pave the way for greater collaboration in education, research, and innovation, benefiting students and institutions across both regions.
