Social Media Influencer VeryDarkMan Arrested In Nigeria Over Cyberstalking Allegations.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of Nigerian social media influencer Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, following multiple petitions accusing him of cyberstalking. The anti-graft agency disclosed the development to BBC News Pidgin on Monday through its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.
According to Oyewale, VeryDarkMan was taken into custody to address a series of complaints lodged by various petitioners. “We arrested him to respond to allegations raised against him,” Oyewale stated. He emphasised that the EFCC is committed to upholding the law and will proceed with the case promptly.
The spokesperson clarified that the influencer’s arrest was not solely linked to any specific organisation, such as Guaranty Trust Bank, but stemmed from petitions submitted by different individuals. “The agency owes a duty of protection to all petitioners,” Oyewale noted.
VeryDarkMan is expected to be released upon meeting bail conditions, with the EFCC planning to arraign him in court as soon as possible. “We are law-abiding and will ensure the case progresses swiftly,” Oyewale added.
The arrest has sparked discussions across social media platforms, with supporters and critics of the influencer weighing in on the allegations. The EFCC has assured the public that it will handle the matter transparently and in accordance with legal procedures.
Further updates on the case are anticipated as the investigation continues.
