Real Madrid Criticises Referees’ Public Statements Ahead Of Copa Del Rey Final.
Real Madrid have issued a strongly worded statement condemning recent remarks made by the referees appointed to officiate the Copa del Rey Final, which is set to take place on Saturday, 26 April 2025.
In the statement released on Friday, the club described the referees’ public comments as “unacceptable”, claiming that their focus on content aired by Real Madrid TV—just one day before the final—is misplaced and indicative of ongoing hostility towards the club.
“These protests, surprisingly centred on videos from a media outlet protected by freedom of expression, demonstrate, once again, the clear and manifest animosity and hostility of these referees toward Real Madrid,” the club stated.
The club also expressed concern over what it called “threatening” language from the match officials, which referenced their unity and suggested possible actions that, according to Madrid, compromise the principles of fairness and impartiality that are essential in a match of such global importance.
Real Madrid called on the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the refereeing body to take immediate action. The club urged the authorities to protect the integrity of the sport and uphold the reputation of the institutions they represent.
The highly anticipated Copa del Rey Final, featuring Real Madrid, is expected to draw the attention of football fans around the world.
