President Tinubu Leaves Japan For Brazil To Strengthen Bilateral Ties.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departed Yokohama, Japan, on Thursday night for an ultra-long-haul flight to Brazil, where he will commence a state visit on Sunday, August 24. The trip marks the second leg of his two-nation tour, which began on August 15 with his departure from Abuja, Nigeria, and included a brief stopover in Dubai before arriving in Yokohama on August 18.
In Japan, President Tinubu attended the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) from August 20 to 22, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa.” The summit focused on accelerating Africa’s economic transformation through private investment, innovation, and stronger institutions. During his stay, he held bilateral meetings with Japanese government officials, business leaders, and development partners to bolster Nigeria-Japan relations. He also engaged with the Nigerian diaspora at an interactive session at Kahala Hotel and Resort, urging them to contribute their skills and resources to Nigeria’s development and to act as positive ambassadors for the country.

The President’s journey to Brazil includes a stopover in Los Angeles before proceeding to Brasília, the Brazilian capital. Invited by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Tinubu’s two-day visit from August 24 to 25 will focus on deepening cooperation in trade, security, agriculture, energy transition, and cultural exchange. Accompanied by key ministers and senior officials, he will hold bilateral talks with his host and participate in a business forum aimed at attracting Brazilian investment to Nigeria. The delegation is expected to explore opportunities to sign agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen ties between Nigeria and Latin America’s largest economy.
Tinubu also plans to meet with the Nigerian community in Brazil to discuss government policies and encourage greater diaspora involvement in national development. The Presidency has confirmed that the President will return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Brazil, marking a significant step in expanding Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic partnerships.
