President Tinubu Approves Group Life Assurance For Federal Workers.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sanctioned a Group Life Assurance policy for federal employees, a move designed to provide financial relief to the families of deceased public servants, including senior government officials, for the 2025/2026 policy year.
The announcement was made by Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, during a press briefing at the State House in Abuja following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by the President. She highlighted that the policy underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the welfare of federal workers.
“The Federal Government has taken out a life policy on each public servant. In the unfortunate event of death, the next of kin will receive benefits to cushion the loss,” Walson-Jack stated.
The coverage extends beyond civil servants to include the President, Vice President, Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and employees across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) funded by the Treasury. It also applies to key paramilitary and uniformed organisations, such as the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Walson-Jack noted that 17 insurance underwriters have been appointed to manage the policy, which will be renewed annually. The policy will take effect once premiums are paid, in line with the government’s “no premium, no cover” directive.
She added, “This policy has been in existence for several years, but many public servants remain unaware of its provisions.” The initiative is expected to bring greater awareness and financial security to the families of federal employees, reinforcing the government’s focus on their well-being.
