President Tinubu Appoints Olumode Samuel Adeyemi As New Controller-General Of Federal Fire Service.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Deputy Controller-General Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the new substantive Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), effective 14th August 2025. The announcement, made on Wednesday, 30th July 2025, by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), marks a significant transition for the agency as it prepares for the retirement of the current Controller-General, Engr. Abdulganiyu Jaji Olola, on 13th August 2025, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Adeyemi, a seasoned fire service professional from Kogi State, brings over three decades of experience to his new role. Having begun his career with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, he later transferred to the FFS, where he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Controller-General in charge of the Human Resource Directorate at the Service Headquarters. His extensive career includes participation in major urban and industrial fire incidents across Nigeria, as well as completion of all mandatory in-service training, command courses, and additional professional development programmes both domestically and internationally.

The new Controller-General is also a respected member of several professional bodies, including the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, and the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management of Nigeria. These affiliations underscore his expertise in both fire service operations and administrative leadership, positioning him to lead the FFS into a new era of professionalism and efficiency.

The CDCFIB, in a statement signed by its Secretary, Major General Abdulmalik Jibril (retd.), expressed confidence in Adeyemi’s ability to build on the achievements of his predecessor. The board also extended its gratitude to the outgoing Controller-General, Engr. Abdulganiyu Jaji Olola, for his significant contributions to the modernisation and growth of the FFS. Olola’s tenure was marked by key reforms and initiatives that enhanced fire safety and response capabilities across the country, earning him widespread appreciation.

President Tinubu’s appointment of Adeyemi reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s public safety infrastructure. The FFS plays a critical role in protecting lives and property, and Adeyemi’s leadership is expected to further advance the agency’s mission, particularly in improving response times and adopting modern firefighting technologies. The transition comes at a time when Nigeria is focusing on enhancing its emergency services to meet the demands of a growing population and urbanising landscape.

As Adeyemi prepares to assume his new role, stakeholders within the fire service and the broader public safety sector have expressed optimism about his appointment. His extensive experience and professional credentials are seen as assets that will drive the FFS towards greater effectiveness in safeguarding communities across Nigeria. The appointment has been widely welcomed as a step towards ensuring continuity and progress in the nation’s fire service operations.
