Police Neutralise Four Suspected Kidnappers In Ogun Gun Duel.
The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised four suspected kidnappers following a gun duel at Warewa, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The incident, which occurred on Thursday evening, was confirmed in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, on Saturday in Abeokuta.
According to the statement, a white Paragon commercial vehicle, marked BDG 753 YH and driven by Morufu Adedeji, was ambushed at around 8:30 p.m. The assailants, armed with firearms and other dangerous weapons, forced the vehicle to a stop, held the driver at gunpoint, and began robbing passengers.
During the attack, some passengers managed to escape after the driver courageously opened the rear door. This enraged the criminals, who brutally assaulted him, leaving him unconscious.
Swift Police Intervention
Acting on a distress call, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command swiftly responded and engaged the criminals in a gun battle. Four of the armed men were neutralised, while others managed to escape into the bush with gunshot wounds.
Recovered items from the scene included a locally made pistol with two cartridges, two daggers, N20,000 in cash, a Tecno Android phone, a solar power bank, and three USB lights, suspected to be stolen property.
The bodies of the neutralised suspects have been deposited at the State Hospital Morgue, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for autopsy and further investigation.
Enhanced Security Measures
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the area. He has deployed tactical operatives to monitor strategic flashpoints along the Warewa/Arepo axis, ensuring the safety of residents and commuters.
Odutola urged members of the public, particularly medical practitioners, to report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. She also advised residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
