If the Peoples Democratic Party – PDP, would be a party to stand up to the occasion of real opposition come 2027, then, there is need to come-off all this internal wobble. We’ve lately seen and heard of the opposition party’s members defected, while more are expected to follow suit.
This should be issues to engage and get its house in order ahead of the 2027 general elections. This route, if continue would only lead to more woes for the party.
News earlier yesterday, Tuesday, saw the Abia State Working Committee – SWC, of the party suspended the chairman, Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara. In a swift response, the National Working Committee – NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has nullified the suspension of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
This action was taken by a pro-group of the party, named Frontiers for Change and Progress. The group dismissed the suspension of Wabara by Abia State PDP Chairman, describing the suspension as a big joke.
The group also announced the expulsion of Abia State Chairman of PDP, Abraham Amah over alleged impersonation.
According to a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the purported suspension violated the PDP Constitution (as amended 2017), and did not follow due process.
Ologunagba described the action as reckless and unconstitutional, after the Abia state chapter of the party suspended Wabara for endorsing Governor Alex Otti for a second tenure barely five months into the governor’s administration in October 2023.
“The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC), of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been drawn to the purported suspension of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of our great Party, Distinguished Senator Adolphus Wabara from the Party.
“For emphasis, no State Working Committee has the power to suspend or take any disciplinary action against a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC), of the Party without due recourse to the NWC as clearly provided under Section 57 (7) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended 2017),” Ologunagba said.
This however, is believed to have unfolded by the unresolved whims and caprice between loyalists of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and the PDP former presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Wike’s man and former governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has firm control of the Abia PDP.
