NPFL Round-Up: Redemption For Amuneke, Musa Shines, Remo Stars’ Unbeaten Streak Ends.
The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) provided yet another thrilling round of matches across the nation, full of excitement, drama, and standout performances.
Amuneke’s First NPFL Victory
Emmanuel Amuneke finally registered his first victory as NPFL manager, leading Heartland to a 2-0 win over Niger Tornadoes. Michael Ogu emerged as the hero of the match, netting a brace and securing the much-needed three points for Amuneke’s side.
Musa’s Magic in Katsina
Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, delivered a masterclass in front of his home fans as Kano Pillars cruised to a 2-0 win over Sunshine Stars. Musa scored both goals in the first half, including a sublime opener. He nearly completed his hat-trick but missed a penalty that would have crowned his dominant display.
Rivers United Remain Strong
Rivers United, led by manager Finidi George, continued their fine form with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Akwa United. After Stephen Manyo opened the scoring, Akwa United levelled the game, but a late strike from Ndifreke Effiong ensured the Pride of Rivers climbed to the top of the NPFL standings.
Remo Stars’ Unbeaten Run Ends
Remo Stars saw their impressive unbeaten streak come to an end as Kwara United’s Afonja Warriors secured a 1-0 win. Abdul Raheem Shola’s 62nd-minute goal was enough to seal the victory, after Remo Stars were reduced to 10 men following Sani Faisal’s red card earlier in the game.
Enyimba’s Dominance
Enyimba showed their might in a 3-0 demolition of Katsina United, delivering a convincing performance before the game was halted due to lighting issues at the stadium. Despite the premature conclusion, Enyimba’s superiority was clear.
More NPFL Highlights
Elsewhere, Plateau United handed Ikorodu City another defeat, with Victor Temitope scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory. Enugu Rangers moved up to fourth place after a perfectly-executed free kick from Kazeem Ogunleye sealed a slender 1-0 win over Abia Warriors at the Cathedral.
