Nicolas Jover: The Mastermind Behind Arsenal’s Set-Piece Success.
Arsenal’s dominance from set pieces has become a defining feature of their game, and the credit largely goes to their set-piece coach, Nicolas Jover.
Jover, a French coach specialising in dead-ball situations, has been instrumental in transforming Arsenal into a threat from corners and free kicks. This was evident once again in their recent 2-0 victory over Manchester United, where goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba, both originating from corners, sealed the win.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been vocal about Jover’s impact. Reflecting on Arsenal’s earlier 1-0 win against Tottenham in September, Arteta remarked: “Him and the rest of the staff have injected the belief to the players that there are many ways to win football matches. This is a really powerful one, and he has given us a lot. So a big compliment to all of them.”
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim also acknowledged Jover’s influence after their recent clash. Speaking to Amazon Prime, Amorim said, “It’s incredible, especially the way they change the games. Sometimes they are not dominant, and today you feel that in the game – was really divided, then set pieces can change a game.”
Under Jover’s guidance, Arsenal have scored 22 goals from corners since the start of last season, more than any other Premier League team. His meticulous preparation and innovative strategies have turned Arsenal’s set pieces into a formidable weapon, making them a force to be reckoned with in the title race.
