Neymar Returns To Brazil Squad For World Cup Qualifiers.

Neymar has been recalled to the Brazil squad for the first time in 17 months ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.

The Santos forward has not featured for the national team since suffering a knee injury against Uruguay in October 2023. However, after an underwhelming spell at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, Neymar has rediscovered his form since rejoining his boyhood club in January. The 33-year-old has impressed in the Brazilian top flight, registering three goals and three assists in seven appearances.

With 128 caps, Neymar is Brazil’s second-most capped player behind Cafu (142) and remains his country’s all-time top scorer with 79 goals, two more than the legendary Pelé.

Brazil are currently fifth in the Conmebol qualifying table with 18 points from 12 matches. They will host Colombia on 21 March before travelling to face leaders Argentina five days later.

Dorival Júnior’s squad includes a strong Premier League presence, with Liverpool and Manchester City goalkeepers Alisson and Ederson among the 10 England-based players selected. Arsenal’s Gabriel and Nottingham Forest’s Murillo bolster the defence, while Wolves duo André and Matheus Cunha, along with Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, have also been named.

Brighton’s João Pedro and Manchester City winger Savinho are among the attacking options as Brazil look to strengthen their position in the qualifiers.
